the Granary building

IMAG0645This week I’m at Central St Martins in the new Granary building behind St Pancras International.  I hadn’t been to this part of London since the re-development and construction began and the transformation is startling already, with more work yet to be completed.  The Granary  building is a converted grain storage warehouse located beside Regent’s Canal.  To house an art school I would have expected the building to have been designed well, but it goes beyond that and it is a beautiful conversion blending modern materials like concrete with the original brickwork, all of which is encased together under a glass roof from which daylight cascades.  My poor camera phone struggles with the brightness! Everywhere I look I see the craft of design and construction.  What an inspiring place to be!
