an artist’s studio

Yesterday I accompanied the artist Melanie Russell to her studio near Bermondsey Street to document some of her work.  It’s one of those red brick, metal window framed old warehouse buildings, that has so far escaped being transformed into expensive warehouse apartments.  Whilst we were inside taking photographs there was a sudden downpour, and it was momentarily grey and ominous in the sky.  Suddenly, just as rapidly as the sky had darkened, the sun emerged triumphant and the rooftops glistened.

It was good to get the tripod out and practise some careful, detailed photos and remind myself about dealing with overhead strip lighting and changeable conditions through the windows.  It was a peaceful space and nice to see some of Melanie’s latest work in her creative space.
