to do list

I have a constantly changing and updating to do list in my head.  I can hear it when I’m lazing on the sofa watching crappy American crime dramas and it reminds me that I have plenty of creative things I could be wisely spending my time on instead.  Currently the list includes: design and create a website for my photography, check files for photos to put on said website, arrange some interning for a film company to get filming experience, organise a studio photo shoot to refresh my studio skills and add to my portfolio.  This is all combined with: cut back the garden ready for winter, change car battery and arrange MOT, create a new feature for the blog, have the film in my camera developed, finish the reflections project on film…. so many different ideas and not much oomph!  I like my sleep too much; I just can’t stay up every night past midnight working on my photos.  Plus now that I’m back at work for most of the week by the end of the day I just want to relax, catch up with friends, have some dinner and/or drinks (and watch crime dramas).  Don’t even get me started on finding the energy for the gym or exercise classes.  I envy my friends who will fit so much more in to their long evenings, always with several projects on the go at the same time, stressed by the juggling perhaps but happy to be trying nonetheless.

So what’s a girl to do?  When I quit full time work last year I created a blog to keep me structured and focused.  Now it’s a pressure to keep myself interesting and inspired.  I need to stop procrastinating, it’s always been my problem (I used to tidy my desk instead of studying for exams) and I’m just doing myself a disservice by not attempting at least some of these projects.  And what was the point of taking that scary step and leaving behind job security for me to just crawl straight back to the same routine at the first opportunity?  No.  Time to be proactive.

Words of wisdom from my mother when I was a child “The more you do, the more you can do”.

Come on Friday – let’s go!

Just take that first step. Not sure if I’m saying this to you or to me. I have hundreds of thing I need to do. 🙂

  3. You’re not alone..juggling is never easy. It’s very easy to feel the weight of the whole list..just go one thing at a time..5 mins is better than nothing..and we all work better at different times of the day..find when your creative mojo is at it’s best..might be lunch time! Sending love xxxxxx
